The hard work by the members of West Devon RAYNET, based in and around the City of Plymouth, has been recognised by Plymouth City Council who have awarded them the Lord Mayors Shield for Outstanding Community Assistance for 2003, 2004 and 2005!

The shield is awarded annually by Plymouth City Council to show its appreciation of the work undertaken by the voluntary sector in the city, especially at large public events held there.

West Devon RAYNET have been called upon several times by the City Council, mainly through the Emergency Planning Office the Police and Ambulance Services, to assist at such events as the Total Solar Eclipse, The annual Lord Mayors Day Parade, and various Emergency Exercises, many of which are lined up again for this year.

Ian Harley, G6BJJ, the Group Controller, who accepted the shield on behalf of the group said: -

“It is an honour to receive this award as it shows just how much the work of the whole team is appreciated. They put in a lot of time and effort, much of it in the background at these events, but that is a testimony in itself that the work is done quietly and efficiently with no dramas. Well done team.”
