Main and Second Battery, showing selector/isolator unit.

 

The second battery is always charged from alternator and main battery but there is approx 0.5 volt drop. this is useful when the engine is running as the charging voltage for the batteries is just on 15volts.

 

The maximum voltage the vhf/uhf rig will take is exactly 14.95 volts

 

Over-voltage results in the radio shutting down and loss of memory. As it then has to be totally reset and reprogrammed every time this happens it can be a bit of a pain and takes ages! ... and so is preferred to a normal split charger relay.

p.s. for simplicity not all the fuses etc. are shown. Please remember to add them to ALL power lines!
